It is stated that the issue of rehabilitation of these villages had been hanging fire for the past two years ever since the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh and the residuary AP, was to pay Telangana a share of relief and rehabilitation costs for shifting of the Nalgonda villages which are threatened with submergence from the reservoir's backwaters.

Earlier AP has decided to store as much water as it can at the 45.75 thousand million cubic feet (tmc ft) capacity Pulichintala reservoir to meet its requirements in the months to come and the two villages in Nalgonda have already been inundated by the backwaters where people have been evacuated.

Presently the Telangana government has said that that AP released its long pending share of relief and rehabilitation for the project that affected villages to avoid any possible protest from Telangana and it is now anticipated that the Telangana government will not have any further objections to AP's impounding water at Pulichintala.
