Hyderabad sources have stated that an earthquake measuring a massive 9.2 on the Richter scale that occurred south of Sumatra in Indonesia was simulated in a major attempt to check preparedness of vulnerable nations including India and the drill was conducted by the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (Incois) of the ministry of earth sciences, in Hyderabad on September 7th to 8th and information sent to other authorities.



An Incois official has said, they have sent out information to all authorities after the quake simulation using all available means to communicate and the agencies concerned were anticipated to take measures to evacuate people from areas vulnerable to tsunamis.

Celsa Almedia, an official of Inocois, has said they have standard operating procedures (SOPs) which were tested to check if authorities could evacuate people in areas who would have been at risk if there indeed was Tsunami.



Sources have stated that the drill was coordinated with the support of national disaster management authority (NDMA), ministry of home affairs, and national disaster response force (NDRF) in states of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Gujarat, Karnataka, Telangana and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
