Spice Jet passengers had lucky escape
More than 60 passengers of SpiceJet had a miraculous escape with the aricraft overshot the runway at Tirupati airport. The incident happened on Saturday evening and the passengers experienced tense moments as the aircraft overshot the runway before halting in a sand pit. Passengers felt it was a major accident though officials term it as minor technical glitch. Former Minister Ramnarayan Reddy and government officials were among the passengers.
Gundlakamma Reservoir Project at snail's pace
Water starved Prakasam district witnessed many irrigation projects launched by successive state governments but till now none of them are completed. Kandul Obul Reddy Gundlakamma Reservoir Project designed to irrigate 80,060 acres was the first irrigation project to be completed in the state under ‘Jalayagnam’ scheme which was dedicated to the nation in 2008 is still moving at snail's pace. Water couldn't be supplied for the ayacut for long time due to faremer's reluctance to offer 50 acrs of land to complete the branch canals at Dudduru and Pamidipadu villages. Some of them also went to court against the land acquisition despite the authorities offering sizable compensation. Had it not been for the legal tangle, many lands would have turned fertile.
8 arrested for possessing banned currency
Two Town police arrested 8 persons for possessing banned currency in Kakinada. Police arrested 8 people after raiding an apartment complex near Bhanu Gudi Centre following a tip off. They were trying to sell outdated Turkish currency notes (Lira). The Turkish government banned them in 2010.
Prakasam district to protest for second port
People of Prakasam district dreamed of rapid development under the previous Congress government. However the Centre’s decision later to locate the major public sector port at Dugarajapatnam away from east coast of Ramayapatnam came as a setback. But Chandra Babu led TDP government revivied hopes when it decided to develop a series of 14 ports, including Ramayapatnam on the east coast on public private partnership (PPP) mode to unleash the full potential of the maritime State.PDDF, CPI are trying to intensify pressure on the government to start the project work quickly.

Race for Chittoor Mayor is heating up 10 months after the brutal double murder of Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband K. Mohan in her chamber . Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana announced that the chedule for by-elections to various municipal wards and corporation divisions would be made in the comng days. Many lika Katari Hemalatha, daughter in law of slain couple already submitted memorandum to CM Chandra Babu. Her rivals, Chintu alias Chandrasekhar, the accused number one in the murder case, and his relative are said to be working out a plan to field independent candidate.

Metro 2nd construction stage gets safety clearance
Official word might not have come on when the Hyderabad Metro Rail will begin its commercial operations, but it is coming out that the second construction stage of the project, from Miyapur to S.R. Nagar has also been given safety certification from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) recently. In 2015, the first construction stage from Nagole to Mettuguda got safety certification from the designated authority which can now allow the L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad to throw it open for the general public.
Akbaruddin Owaisi case hearing put off
Local court adjourned the hearing on the attack on MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi. Akbaruddin and the accused appeared in the court of the Seventh Metropolitan Sessions Judge on saturday and court recorded the statement of Akbaruddin after he was cross examined by the defence counsel on how he practised firing at his farm house with his 0.22 Beretta pistol a month before the attack on him.
Amit Shah attacks CM KCR
BJP president Amit Shah attacked Telangana CM KCR and his government while celebrating Liberation Day yesterday in a grand manner. Amit Shah addressed two meetings one at Hyderabad and later at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Hanamkonda, Warangal celebrating Telangana Liberation Day on Sep 17. He said KCR is afraid of MIM and Owaisi and so he didnot celebrated Telangana Liberation Day officially.
Girl with fake rank for MBBS seat
Officials at MBBS counselling got huge shock when they found a girl turned up with a rank card with state rank of 13th. Kaloji Health University vice-chancellor and MBBS counselling convener Prof. B. Karunakar Reddy after examining found that her rank card was fake. They said while the first ranker got 151 marks, her marks showed 152 marks. Officials let her and her dad with a warning keeping in view her future.
Another suicide at Hyderabad University
Hyderabad University campus which is boiling over Rohit Vemula's suicide woke up with shock to find another student ending his life committing suicide. Fine Arts student Nelli Praveen Kumar, hailing from Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar district was found hanging when his roommate Raja Shekaran Mari Raj, came back to the hostel from his painting studio at 4.15 AM and forced the door open. Raj then took his roommate on a two-wheeler to the UoH health centre where the medical officer sent the patient to a private hospital in Nallagandla. There he was declared dead.
