Chennai sources have stated that at a conference which was organized to ‘Protect river water rights of Tamil Nadu’ on Wednesday, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has passed a resolution urging the Tamil Nadu government to call for an all party meeting and “speak politically in one voice” on the Cauvery water issue.

Meanwhile the VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan has criticized Chief Minister Jayalalitha for acting unilaterally on the issue and has said the Chief Minister thinks that the dispute can be settled in the courts and there is no need to speak politically in one voice, whereas in Karnataka, they do both challenge them in courts and has also put pressure on the Central government by letting the goons loose on the streets.

Senior Congress leader Kumari Ananthan has endorsed Mutharasan’s stand that rivers did not belong to one particular set of people and Gandhi has said that man is just a trustee of water, not its owner and rivers have to be linked and nationalized.

VCK’s general secretary D. Ravi Kumar has said that the Indian Constitution already provides the mechanism for settling water disputes and has said that only VCK had managed to bring political parties together and MDMK general secretary Vaiko has also participated in the conference.
