The U.S media has come down to placate the wounded Indian psyche, because of the statement made by Obama of late. But this attempt of that Financial daily, which tried to sooth the grieved feelings, too, is abrasive. All that it tried to say is that, Obama is trying to ‘Cheer’ the Indian elite and not insulting them.  But, when we read the text of the whole story of that financial daily, we would find the real agenda of it. It goes on to say that ‘India is resorting to protectionism,’ against which the foreign investors of various countries are appealing to their political leaders. But the question is that, is this a valid point or true at all? The answer would be an emphatic ‘NO.’  In fact India is appealing against the protectionist policies of the USA since some time. U.S leaders led by Obama are trying to impose regulations on the ‘Outsourcing of jobs’ from that country. They as well are trying to put in many hurdles, on the way of the immigration of the Indian professionals to U.S by tightening the regulations on the Visa’s they issue. The case of the rise in the fee for the H1B visa is already known to all of us. The Indian software industry is protesting against these practices. Not just this many obstacles are being raised by the U.S, in terms of the imports from the other countries onto its shores. It is resorting to litigation, against the various exports from the other countries on the platform of the World Trade Organization. Indian imports of the shrimps and other sea produce do too face many hurdles, because of the policies of the U.S administrators. Even Chinese have their own share of problems, as a result of the U.S protectionism. U.S on one side is giving subsidies to its solar power industry, whereas on the other side, it does object to the same thing being done by the Chinese and thus prevent Chinese solar power imports onto its land via litigation. These are but a few cases of the American protectionism to quote. Thus America should stop blaming India of Protectionism. More so because, what has really happened to the Indian reforms is that they are in the grips of the political stand-off, because many allies of the congress party itself oppose them and not because of the protectionism of the Indian Government, as Obama and his ilk does want us to believe.  In addition the ‘real’ reason for the hurry with which the Obama administration wants us to take up reforms was also blurted out in this news story of that news paper. It is that, ‘ the west has every interest in seeing this liberal democracy (India) grow into a partner for wealth creating trade and a bulwark against authoritarianism in Asia...’ that is the true colour of all this goading and prodding of our leaders does show up. America wants us to be a bulwark against the raising Chinese prowess in the world. Thus it is trying to groom us as its counterweight for the Chinese. Thus the role Americans are assigning to us is the role of perpetual conflict with our neighbour i.e. China.  But, when we try to check up, what these Americans are doing with the Chinese, we find a different story. A story in which the American president Obama tours the China and declares that Tibet is a part of China itself. Whereas on the other side standing by the U.S, either advertently or inadvertently, we in India do host the Dalai Lama. In addition U.S does plan to form a G-2, by engaging with China in a partnership. It does not even hesitate, to ditch its long time European friends in the G-8, in this attempt to forge an alliance with china. These are a few examples of the double standards of the U.S policy. They want us to fight their battles for them. In this process they taunt us, threaten us, goad us and even try to please us... when everything else does not look like working.
