Sources have stated that statistics Canada returns to using the compulsory long form census in 2016. Meanwhile the Harper government had eliminated the compulsory requirement in 2010, leading to the resignation of StatsCan's chief, Munir Sheikh. The new Liberal government has reversed that policy in November. It was stated that StatsCan estimates over 13.4 million households will take part in the census, most of them answering the agency's questions online. May 10 was declared as the census day.
