There are many reasons which are attributed to the loss of the Telugu Desam Party in the 2004 elections and many criticize that it was Babu’s negligence of the farmers, his over imposition of taxes, financial burdens etc. But in truth, these are not the reasons why TDP or Babu were voted out of power.
The key reason for their defeat has been because Babu followed the book. It is true that he made few errors but at the same time he always believed in discipline and wanted everyone to follow the rules. His ‘Akasmika Tanikhi’ and file clearance programs gave shockers to the lethargic government employees and they were not ready to bend their back and work hard.
This developed resentment in the government officials. At the same time, Babu wanted the departments to collect taxes promptly which was also a deterrent. This time, many are suggesting that along with the rules Babu must also give benefit of doubt in few cases and that should make him a good ruler, let us see what happens.
