Despite various allegations of corruption and financial embezzlement, the image of the late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy remains intact in the hearts of the poor people and especially the masses which form the major vote bank. During his regime, when YSR retained power in 2009 he started what is called ‘Operation Aakarsh’.
This was an initiative to woo the leaders of other parties into Congress through various means. Today, YSR is no more but the same initiative is being carried forward by his son Y S Jagan. Then the objective was to strengthen Congress but today the objective is to weaken Congress. However, one question still remains.
Can Jagan be as successful as his father in Operation Aakarsh. So far, there is a good hype that many leaders from other parties will join him in his YSR Congress party. But Jagan’s real capacity will only be known few months before the 2014 elections. During his time, YSR was largely successful in this matter.
