Days after the announcement of the grand alliance between Samajwadi Party and Congress things turned red for the two parties as they could not arrive at an understanding in the seat sharing for the upcoming assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi

Congress earlier had asked Samajwadi Party for 110 seats where the Chief Minister and SP President Akhilesh Yadav offered only 100 seats. Congress felt that Akhilesh has no respect for the grand old party. Akhilesh told that he had to adjust the list that contained about 38 candidates which the former president of the party Mulayam Singh had given.  Akhilesh also argued that since RLD was now out of the equation, Congress should be content with 100 seats in the state

Few days back when the Yadav family feud was on a boil, and that there was a fight going on for the cycle symbol... Akhilesh had agreed to give 142 seats for congress for the upcoming polls. But this was before the Election Commission acted in his favour. Akhilesh had even agreed on a written note between SP and the Congress. But, after the Election Commission decided in his favour, Akhilesh Yadav scaled down the seat offer to 121 citing some internal political compulsions.

Congress agreed to the 121 seats. But expressed their unhappiness as Akhilesh further lowering the number to 100 seats. With this the grand alliance between Congress and Samajwadi party broke. Senior Samajwadi party leader Naresh had confirmed that Akhilesh led samajwadi Party would contest alone in the upcoming alliance so as congress also clarified that it would fight alone in UP elections. The break up between the two parties is seen as advantage for the BJP.
