Many seasoned analysts lauded the way people of Tamil Nadu cutting across all sections joined hands and showed their power to the Governments both at the Centre and State to save their traditional game Jallikattu which was banned by the Supreme Court of India.
Experts hailed the strength and resilience of the people whose commitment made celebrities and political parties join their protests voluntarily. People of Tamil Nadu's movement became popular as Makkal Movement as no untoward incident happened during the last two days.
However what shocked all is the way things got out of hands and violence erupted when police tried to clear the protesters at Marina beach. Tamil Nadu government announced that the legislation will be passed in the assembly. Suddenly political parties started playing politics, with DMK staging a walk out and ruling AIADMK accusing opposition of hijacking the Makkal movement and issued statement that anti social elements entered the peaceful protesters.
Violence erupted even as police started clearing Marina beach. Angry mob set Ice House police station on fire. Mob turned violent with protesters refusing to leave the place demanding permanent solution.
Mob pelted stones at Ice House police station and set several vehicles on fire. Sources reveal that original protesters of Jallikattu planned to end the protests the moment Governor brought in the ordinance. But many other groups took over the movement and it assumed political colors with them demanding protests on Cauvery issue etc. Some even raised Anti National slogans forcing the government to order a crack down.
