Upcoming assembly elections in five states are generating tremendous interest among political circles and analysts across the country. As elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh and Manipur are spread across the country, this is regarded as virtual semi final before the 2019 elections. 


Uttar Pradesh elections are closely watched and national players BJP, Congress and regional parties SP,BJP are leaving no stone unturned to win the state. SP which is ruling the state has been rocked by the internal crisis and this is affecting it adversely according to analysts though CM Akhilesh Yadav forged alliance with Rahul Gandhi's Congress.

According to the latest survey, BJP is expected to win Uttar Pradesh comfortably gaining majority in the state. BJP which won just 155 seats in 2012 will get 202 seats with a votet share of 34% in the 403 member assembly. 


SP-Congress alliance will get only 147 seats with 31%. This is down 105 seats. Mayawathi's BSP,which wooed muslims by fielding muslim candidates in large number,will get only 47 seats with 24% vote share. This is less than 33 seats in 2012.

What surprised opposition parties are people supported Modi's demonetisation move with 63.4% people feeling it is good for the country. 31.9% however felt it is not a good decision. Akhilesh Yadav is still the ppular face for CM with 39% while Mayawathi came second with 23%. Yogi Adityanath of BJP got 16%.
