India for long has been trying hard to enter into the prestigious Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) for quite some time. But despite US support and many nations supporting India's bid, India still couldn't make it as China blocked India's entry clubbing it with Pakistan at Seoul meeting in July 2016.

India indirectly named one country and named China in Parliament saying it created procedural hurdles” by particularly questioning how a non-NPT signatory could become a member. By the end of 2016, Rafael Mariano Grossi former NSG chairman, prepared a new draft proposal thus clearing India's entry.

However it has a rider and India will need to give commitment that it will not conduct any nuclear explosive test. Another condition to which India will have to agree is that “due to the unique nature of the non-NPT party applications, (non-NPT applicant) would join a consensus of all other participating governments on the merits of any non-NPT party application”. In effect this would ensure that India, when it gets into the NSG, is not able to block Pakistan from following suit.

Now it seems India cleared all NSG hurdles and may soon become the member of the 48 member elite NSG. Minister of State for External Affairs V K Singh sharing the information said "India's application for the NSG membership enjoys widespread support of the members of the group...While no member of the group has explicitly opposed India's membership, certain procedural and process-related issues have been raised by a few members,"
