After hectic campaigns, war of words exchanged from parties the two states Goa and Punjab went for people's mandate. Voters turned out in huge numbers to cast their vote. several dignitaries and political personalities made their presence too.

The voting came to an end in the two states Goa and Punjab today. Goa had a high turnout of 83 per cent breaking its last year’s record of 81 per cent. The 83 per cent turnout was till 5 pm. Goa has a total of 40 seats and Punjab 117 seats. These two states are the first of the five to go to polling ahead of Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Uttarakhand which are being held simultaneously in the months of February and March. The counting of votes for all five states will begin on March 11.

 The ruling BJP in Goa is fighting against the tough opponents Congress and AAP. BJP has staged its candidates in 36 constituencies while congress and AAP had fielded their candidates in 37 and 39 seats respectively. more than 11 lakh voters were eligible in this election and a total of 250 candidates were in the competition. Voting was held across 1,642 polling booths in the state with para-military forces and State police guarding the venues. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, widely promoted  as the chief ministerial face of the BJP, Union Minister Shripad Naik and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar were among the early voters who cast their ballots

The polling in Punjab started an hour late due to the covered fog. Punjab recorded 75 percent of voting. A large number of police were deployed at the polling stations. The candidates who stood in the competition first attended the Golden temple at Amristar to seek blessings ahead of voting. Several polling stations were reported a technical problems in the EVM's.  A case of violence was reported which took place in Lalu Ghuman village in Tarn Taran. The supporters of two political parties clashed where one person sustained bullet injury. An FIR has been lodged.
