Suicide of Rohit Vemula, student of Univeristy of Hyderabad created huge controvesy not only in Telangana but across the country. Leaders of various national and regional parties made beeline to the university campus and the likes of Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kerjiwal, Kanhaiah Kumar, Sitaram Yechury demanded the resignation of Minister Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya and launched scathing attack on PM Modi.
Rohit Vemula's suicide and the developments aftermath shocked all. While Rohit Vemula's mother claim that he was a dalit, his father claimed that he was SC. This caste controversy added new twist to the case.
Now Congress leader and former MP Hanumantha Rao who has been demanding action against Hyderabad Central University Vice Chancellor P Appa Rao in the suicide case of research scholar Rohith Vemula now shocked all by approaching High Court to make President of India a party in the case.
He through his counsel asked the High Court to direct President to order an inquiry against the university authorities. The bench was reluctant to grant any such order at this stage and sought the production of the copy of the said Act and postponed the case.
