Salem sources have stated that while the majority of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MLAs of the district who extended support to Edappadi K. Palaniswami Government in the trust vote preferred to remain indoors after arriving in the district on Tuesday, S. Semmalai, who was in the O. Panneerselvam camp, was accorded a rousing reception at various centers in his Mettur constituency.
A former Minister and senior leader of the party, Mr. Semmalai was the lone party MLA of the ten elected from the district to back Mr. Panneerselvam. Meanwhile, a group of supporters belonging to Edappadi Palaniswami camp gathered on the Bhavani road in Mettur town and raised slogans condemning Mr. Semmalai for voting against the party whip.
A.B. Sakthivel, MLA from Salem South Constituency, who was in the news for the past two days because of the agitation by OPS supporters in front of his house, visited the Corporation Boys School at Ammapettai and interacted with students. He had told press persons that the agitation was instigated by the DMK.
Police have been posted in front of the offices and residence of all MLAs in Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts. In Namakkal, Pon Saraswathi, MLA from Tiruchengode, visited her office in the morning and held discussion with the party functionaries and workers.
