Recently in Tamil nadu all the small towns are getting into limelight.Vaadivasal was already the highlight of the Jallikattu issue now its Neuvassal which get its popularity. The Centre's approval to go ahead with the hydrocarbon extraction programme in Neduvasal, has sprited the fire Tamil Nadu farmers. It has united the
area's drought-hit farmers in protests.Neduvasal, a small farming town falling in the Cauvery basin is surrounded by lush greenery.

It was geographically marked by ONGC as a hydrocarbon rich field. Among the total44 fields  marked by ONGC , Neduvasal in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Pondichery fall  in the area close to the Cauvery basin.Farmers and local politicians were unanimously opposed to the process of extraction which  involved drilling several wells extremely deep. Then  water is injected under high pressure  to expand already-existing fissures.

It is believed that the process would destroy the fertile, cultivable Cauvery basin. The process also requires a huge amount of water, a must requirement for the farmers, who are facing a drought and crop failure. Their question was very logical.

Their question was why the Centre was unable to bring water from neighouring states when it could do so for a fracking project.Their plight made them think right.ONGC has marked a 10 sq km area around the region for hydrocarbon extraction. This truly fumed the spirit of the farmers and day long protests and hunger strikes are going around Tamil Nadu.
