Nilambur sources have stated that here are reports that Maoists were spotted at Poolakkappara forest outpost in Wayanad during night a couple of days back. The place had witnessed an encounter between Maoists and the police on November 24 last year.


 

It was stated that Maoists have reached Poolakkappara forest outpost in Wayanad during night and had spent some time having bath at a nearby lake and then left the spot. The forest guards informed that around 3 or 4 persons, who were suspected to be Maoists, were seen around 12.30 am near the Poolakkappara outpost. The guards, who stay in the outpost, had gone outside after having food, when they noticed some disturbances in the area.

The Maoists have reportedly come to have a bath in the nearby lake. The forest guards knowing very well that it was unsafe to stay in the outpost and had escaped through the rear into the forests and reached the pump house. They informed their higher officials about the incident.


 

The higher officials who were on patrolling duty reached by early morning and after examination found that the suspected Maoists have taken bath in the lake. On February 16, a Tamil Nadu native Ayyappan, suspected to be a Maoist, was captured by the local people at Kalkulator and was handed over to the police. There are also reports that after his capture, a Maoist had reached a house in the nearby area and asked for provisions. Police are maintaining an alert in the area following this.
