BJP may lose power in Goa if the trends are any indications. According to the latest Goa is heading towards a hung assembly with neck to neck battle between Congress and BJP.

BJP is leading in 11 while Congress in 17 in the 40 seat assembly. Incumbent chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar of BJP lost the elections from Mandrem constituency.

Exit polls predicted BJP to win elections but it seems BJP is facing a setback. Goa is witnessing bitter contest with five former CMs in the fray. They include Churchill Alemao, Pratapsinh Rane, Ravi Naik, Digambar Kamat and Luizinho Faleiro and the incumbent Parsekar.

BJP had pre poll alliance in 2012 and this time it decided to contest elections along after MGP snapped ties with the party and formed a front with Goa Suraksha Manch floated by RSS rebel Subhas Velingkar and Shiv Sena.

In 2012, the BJP-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak had defeated incumbent Congress led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, getting 24 of Goa’s 40 seats. BJP also won both the Lok Sabha seats in 2014.
