Bhuma Nagi Reddy's name needs no introduction in Kurnool district. He shot to fame at a young age and gained the attention of entire nation when he contested against the then PM PV.Narasimha Rao in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections. 


Bhuma Nagi Reddy gave scare to PM PV.Narasimha Rao losing only by a very ting margin. However later the exacted his revenge by winning the by elections defeating Congress senior leader Rangaiah Naidu with a record margin. 


Bhuma, a native of Kothapalle village in Dornepadu mandal, Kurnool aspired to become a doctor after completing plus 2 in Chennai, but had to return to his hometown after his father Bali Reddy was murdered by the rivals.

He first became Primary Agriculture Credit Society (PACS) president and then mandal parishad president. He won the assembly by-election after the death of his brother Sekhara Reddy in 1992.

He repeated the success in 1996 on the back of strong following in Allagadda and Nandyal. Nagi Reddy also married Sobha, daughter of veteran politician S V Subba Reddy , braving the latter's opposition.
