Rivalry and animosity between The Congress and BJP parties are well known. It continued for many decades ever since the days of Jana Sangh. Congress always targeted BJP leadership and especially RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and attacked RSS branding them as killers of Mahatma Gandhi.
Congress banned RSS twice and accused BJP as the political outfit of RSS ,as many BJP leaders are from RSS. Under these circumstances it is difficult to expect Congress cadre and leaders to support RSS or BJP.
The animosity reached new heights with Rahul Gandhi fighting court case for his statements branding RSS as killers of Mahatma Gandhi and also the party's war with PM Modi and BJP.
Many felt that Congress will never support BJP candidate for the post of President and hell will break lose if BJP tries to make a RSS man as the president.In such circumstances,sometime back Shiv Sena dared BJP to make RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat as President of India.
This created huge controversy and people felt that Congress will make use of this opportunity. But much to its shock,Congress party muslim leader CK.Jaffer Shareef came in support of RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat as President of India. He said "I personally feel nobody should find fault with Mohan Bhagwat's name being considered for President."
He added "...there should not be any doubt about his patriotism, love for the people of India, loyalty to the nation and commitment to the Constitution of India and to the democracy."
He said "As a Muslim and a person belonging to minority community of India, I feel that the minorities should not have any fear or crisis of confidence in Mohan Bhagwat's name being considered,"
