Sasikala and Pannerselvam factions of AIADMK got shock from the Election Commission when it decided to cancel the RKNagar bypolls. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and Election Commissioners Achal Kumar Jyoti and Om Prakash Rawat decided to cancel the RK Nagar by elections after a marathon discussions with Tamil Nadu’s Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni and Special Observer (Expenditure) Vikram Batra on Sunday.
Election Commission has taken this decision which will be announced formally after cash for votes scandal shocked entire nation. IT raids across the state on various politicians and the seizure of incriminating documents exposed how the ruling AIADMK party planned to distribute Rs 89 crore among voters of R K Nagar.
EC canceled by-elections for the second time after it cancelled elections to Aravakurichi and Thanjavur were canceled in May last year.Sources reveal the decision to cancel the bypolls was unanimous. Sasikala and Pannerselvam factions left no stone unturned to own the legacy of former CM Jayalalithaa.
Their bitter war reached EC when they tried to own the popular two leaves symbol. EC freezed the symbol but both the factions tried to lure people showing their Hat and Eelectric Pole symbols as two leaves.
