Madrasas are always accused of becoming homes for terrorists and many accuse them of fanning religious fanaticism and breeding Islamic terrorists.
However according to the latest, it is coming out that modern madrasas are creating a sensation in Telangana. State introduced residential schools for muslim children and this brought in a sea change in the education priorities of poor and lower middle class Muslim families.
Many poor muslim families are now showing interest in admitting their kids in residential madrasas and they are also imparting training in english medium along with bearing the cost of food,clothing and healthcare spending Rs 1lakh per student per year.
Islamic scholars say the parents are preferring modern madrasas as they are giving more employment opportunities. MD Shafiullah, the secretary of the TMREIS says “Many students from traditional madrasas are also enrolling in our residential schools. For instance, a student who has completed the Hafez course in a traditional madrasa has now joined in our school and leading Tarawhi prayers in the school during the Ramzan.”
