Kolar sources have stated that currently mango farmers are facing deep distress because of the sudden fall of mangoes in the state. They are not happy because of the lower price and many cultivators have not even harvested the crops. Meanwhile the unseasonal rain has its impact on the production of mangoes and the price fall proved costly to the farmers.

Meanwhile the President of Kolar District Mango Cultivator’s Association (KDMCA) had attributed the lower rates to good production in other states of the country. He said there is good yield of mangoes in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu and this is the main reason for the sudden crash in the price at Kolar.

He added that Tothapuri is one of the most varieties grown in the area and it has a good demand among the juice makers, which is being sold at Rs.11000 per ton. Previously last year it had earned an average amount of Rs.20000 per ton. The present rate is not encouraging as the production cost is taken into account.
