Mysuru sources have made a statement that four forest elephants had come into contact with the high tension wire near Ammathi Vontiangadi village in Virajpet taluk of Kodagu district and the elephants were instantly electrocuted and this happening is the second one happening in this area. Moreover two elephants died at same case on June 14th, which takes the death toll of elephants to six.



According to sources, the Conservator of forests Mr. Manoj Kumar stated that as per initial survey which he had received elephants which were foraging had come into contact with the low lying wires and had died immediately on the spot, while two elephants of it were found as adults and two found as sub-adults.

Moreover Kodagu district has a strong elephant population, but the extent of coffee plantation is more than the forest cover. So the higher authorities included these coffee plantations for the synchronized elephant census which was organized during May and this year to arrive at a solution estimates carried from 50 elephants to around 200 elephants.
