A strike has been announced by theatre associate leader Abirami Ramanathan to shut down all the theatres on this coming working day on Monday he announced that no theatres will be functioning to show their protest.Their demand is to waive the Entertainment tax which GST imposes just like the Kerela and Andhra Governments did.
The 58% to 62% tax that is to be imposed through GST is a heavy burden to them and the consequence is running theatres in losses and eventually, all theatres will be close. He mentioned the Government has not yet provided the clear picture whether they have to pay GST along with the entertainment tax.
He also told theatre owners are left with no other option other than to close their theatres for this heavy tax punishment. The 58 to 62 percent tax imposement will affect the ticket cost drastically which will eventually lead to piracy he said
