Around seven pilgrims returning from the Amarnath pilgrimage shrine were attacked killed on Monday night in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district after terrorists became violent and opened fire on their bus and a security vehicle.The attack occurred at a place called  Batengoo when 60-70 pilgrims were returning from Baltal(pilgrim place), it is a  base camp of the pilgrimage, to Jammu. Deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh ordered  the bodies of the victims – all of belonging to Gujarat – would be airlifted to their respective state on Tuesday.

 Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that  India would not be “bogged down” by such “ cheap cowardly” acts.The Muslim leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik conveyed their grief over the killings, saying the terrorist incident “goes against the very grain of Kashmiri ethos”.

 Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani along with Gujarat BJP head Jitu Vaghani have left to  Surat to meet the  victims’ families. Out of seven killed three were from south Gujarat. The bodies are expected to arrive at Surat airport around 1 pm as ordered by Nirmal Singh.

Security has been tightened across the state.Extra  Forces have been deployed at airports, railways stations and important places of worships.
