Sources have stated that iconic Telugu poet and senior journalist Devipriya has been selected for Central Sahitya Akademi for the year 2017. The award has been given for his anthology ''Gali Rangu. Meanwhile the popular writer Veena Vallabha Rao's translation work ''Viramamerugai Payanam'' was chosen for the award in the translation category.
According to sources Sheikh Khaza Hussain, popularly known by his nom de plume Devipriya has worked in several Telugu media organizations and wrote scripts for films like Dasi and Rangula Kala.
He also officiated as editor for Prajatantra and Hyderabad Mirror. His two-stanza limerick-like poems were stinging comments on contemporary socio-politics. He is also the author of 17 books. Well, is it a controversy or do they really deserve? The people need to decide.
