Supreme Court said that there'll be no modification in its earlier order which had enabled nationwide release of 'Padmavat', reiterating that people abide by court orders. Chief Justice Dipak Misra rejected pleas filed by Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments which demanded a modification of its January 18 order, in which Supreme Court had backed the nationwide release of 'Padmavat' on January 25 by removing the ban on its screening in Gujarat and Rajasthan.

 


The bench which also comprised Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud said that people must understand they have to follow the court order, and states must ensure law and order regulation, while also dismissing the plea. Cases filed by Shree Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Mahasabha, against the screening of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was also dismissed.

The apex court had already instructed other states not to issue ban orders on Padmavat, saying that states have the constitutional obligation of maintaining law and order, and also directed to provide police protection to people involved in the film, besides theater owners and audience. Padmavat starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in lead focus on the epic battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh and Sultan Alauddin Khilji.
