Chennai's most busiest road, Anna Salai, has caved in and now has a 10-foot crater near  DMS junction, next to Metro construction. Though there are no injuries have been reported, this is the third time such an event has happened. As per reports, a section of the road caved in when digging work was happening for Chennai Metro nearby.

Following the cave in by 3pm today, Heavy traffic created especially due to long Republic Day weekend. Anna Salai, previously called Mount Road, has faced multiple cave-ins, and last year, a MTC bus and a car were trapped on a crater in Anna Salai and 35 passengers sustained minor injuries.

The cave-in was because of the tunneling work for Chennai Metro Rail. Previously, a portion of the road near Church Park school caved in, in March 2017. In December 2015, a huge crater formed in Anna Salai-Vijayaraghava Road, Teynampet. Every time, the metro construction is given as the reason for the cave-ins.
