Minister Sellur Raju during his press meet said even beggars won't accept Re.1 these days. But now the same minister and his Government has reduced just 2 Paisa (Not Rupees!) as a deduction from the hiked fares. After the Tamilnadu government increased the bus fares by almost double the existing rates, in a widespread manner, the people of Tamilnadu, including students conducted protests all over the state. After numerous protests, the state government announced that it has decided to yet again reduce the price of bus tickets.

But it was a meager reduction of just 2 paise per kilometer, and this promoted angry reactions from netizens and invited huge trolls and abusive tweets against the government. One of the netizens had tweeted, "when the increase is in rupees, why is the reduction in paise?".Another Twitter user had posted, "What a gift by TN government to reduce the bus fare per kilometer from 60 paise to 58 paise per kilometer!".

Another netizen had questioned, "Instead of giving pressure to the central government for an increase of diesel prices, why is the state government increasing bus fares?". While many also opined that, when the ticket rates increase they increase like the hikes received by MLAs, but when the decrease is done, it happens in just a few paise. This price reduction fiasco has been widely seen by people as a drama by the state government.
