Students of the reputed IIT Mumbai institution have begun protests against the banning of cooking chicken, mutton and meat in general. IIT Mumbai is located at Powai, and in a hotel at the civil engineering department of IIT campus, the hotel management has imposed a ban on cooking and serving of meat.

The students of the institution have opposed the decision, stating that the IIT management is forcing a food habit of 10% of the students on the 90% who are non vegetarians. In IIT Mumbai, it has been a practice to serve vegetarian food in ever silver plates and non vegetarian food in plastic plates, since many years. In such a scenario, last month a complaint was raised that several non vegetarian students were seen having non vegetarian food on ever silver plates, following which the students association has come up with a decision.
