Sources from Coimbatore, Tamilnadu have stated that a day after Bharathiyar University (BU) Vice Chancellor A Ganapathy was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC), a group of teachers and syndicate members of BU are now demanding a judicial probe into past appointments made by him. Accordingly Bharathiyar University Chancellor A Ganapathy was arrested on Saturday by the DVAC following allegations that he had taken Rs 30 lakhs as bribe for the appointment of an associate professor.



According to a report a source from the Association of University Teachers said that the faculty association of the University would seek an independent inquiry of all past appointments by a sitting judge of the Madras High Court. Meanwhile following Ganapthy’s arrest, over 80 appointments made by the VC have been questioned. It is suspected that most of these appointments were of irregular nature.

According to sources R Mathivanan, Director of the School of Distance Education at Bharathiyar University has also been booked for facilitating the cash for professorship scam. It is alleged that he recommended candidates to the posts. Further it is reported that a meeting would be convened in a week to take forward the demand for a judicial probe.
