In an attempt to protect the copyrights of content owners and image server websites, Google had disabled the View Button in its image search. This move of Google had invited the wrath of netizens all over the world and took it to social media to express their disagreement with this move.
However, this move was actually a result of a deal between Google and Getty Images, to help the image owners have their copyrights, and also prevent usage of images without permission to earn revenues. The disabling of the View Image Button meant that the users had to be redirected to the original site, where they had to download the original image, thereby helping the sites earn revenues. This downloading of images from the parent website itself meant copyright and revenue safety.
Despite all this, in just days after
the disabling of the View Image button, an Australian student Joshua, a
developer, developed a Chrome and Firefox extension that can enable the View
Image Button again, and this is exclusively available only on Chrome and
Firefox. While Google had actually made it tough for users, who had to right
click on images to download them, this View Image extension works perfectly,
and serves its purpose, helping users download images as usual.
