According to sources election of members for 58 Rajya Sabha seats and a by-election seat will be held on Friday, across 16 states. Sources reported that the polling will take place in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh, among others.



Meanwhile Uttar Pradesh, where ruling party BJP won with a sweeping majority in the 2017 Assembly polls, will be electing the largest number of Rajya Sabha Members of Parliament (MPs) in this round 10. Accordingly the polling will take place between 9 am and 4 pm on Friday in the respective State Assemblies. Further the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is in majority in the Lok Sabha, it does not have a majority in the Rajya Sabha. However, over the course of the last three four years, BJP has formed governments in multiple states and have won several elections with wide margins.

Presently BJP is anticipating winning substantial number of seats, especially in states such as Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. Moreover the saffron party has already surpassed Congress to become the single-largest party in the upper house with 58 seats and Congress has 54 seats.
