Recently, the Facebook page of Star Vijay Channel, had a post, which read "Dear subscribers of Airtel DTH, your time has changed. Previously, you were getting to watch HD Channels for a price of Rs 200, but from now on, you'll have to pay more than 1000 Rs. But don't worry; you can still watch HD Channels at the same 200 Rs, by switching from Airtel to Sun DTH, Videocon, Tata Sky, or Hathway". This video from star network indicating subscribers to switch from Airtel DTH to other service providers has created a huge controversy.
Not just Vijay TV, but all the other channel pages under star Network posted the same ad. It has been understood that a Price War is happening between Dish TV providers and TV Channels. However, the war between Star Network and Airtel DTH has been speculated to be because of Vivo IPL 2018. With the contract between Airtel and Star Network expiring by March 31, Airtel had increased the prices of Star Network channels, and had announced that the prices might be increased in case of an absence of contract extension.
It is as retaliation to this move by
Airtel that the Star network has posted the ad. Airtel has expressed
displeasure over this move by Star Network adding that it has misled customers.
Airtel has said that as Star Network has spent more than 16350 crores for IPL
2018-22, they have increased the prices. Airtel has also said that the company
will take care of the services for those who had previously recharged, and no
extra fare had to be paid. For several packs, Star HD channels will be
available for the rates prescribed by Star Network.
