Protests have been going on in Tuticorin against the Sterlite factory and its expansion, and permanent closure. In such a scenario, the Sterlite factory opposition team met Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan, the leader of Makkal Needi Maiam party today in Chennai.
It must be noted that people belonging to Kumareddiarpuram of tuticorin have been protesting for more than 40 days against the running of Sterlite and the further expansion of the plant. In such a situation, on March 24, a meeting was held condemning Sterlite and its activities, and following which a huge protest was held, and in solidarity with the protesters, all the shops and establishments in Tuticorin were closed, and buses, autos also didn't operate. Even college students participated in this protest against Sterlite, with college students from VOC College and Government Polytechnic colleges showing active participation.
Even in Salem, college students
protested in support of the protests and movement against Sterlite. With the
strengthening of the movement against Sterlite day by day, today, the team
against Sterlite met Kamal Haasan in his Alwarpettai residence, and it must be
noted that few days back, on his twitter handle, Kamal Hassan had supported the
protest, saying that he was ready to join the war against Sterlite and protest
to get justice served.
