The recent news that Around Rs 3 Crores was spent for tea expenses has sent the political circles in shock. Maharashtra is being ruled by BJP party with Devendra Fadnavis as the chief minister of the state. In such a scenario, recently a question was raised on the amount spent on buying tea in the chief minister's office, using the RTI act.
The answers to the question raised using RTI has come as a shocker. It states that the tea expenses over the last year have increased over 577 times than the previous year. In between 2015-2016, the expenses of Maharashtra chief minister’s office for buying tea/coffee were around 58 lakhs. However, in 2017-18 the tea expenses have increased to a whopping 3.4 crores.
This fact was highlighted by Mumbai
Congress committee leader Sanjay Nirupam in his Twitter handle. He has stated
that there's a huge scam behind this, and on an average, per day 18,591 cups of
tea are consumed by chief minister's office. The Congress leader had asked, if
the CM drinks any gold tea to spend so much, and this extraordinary expenditure
has become a talk of the political arena.
