Google had launched goo.gl way back in 2009, to shorten its links, and make it in a simple compact way, so that users can share lengthy links with ease. This link shortening tool was also used by Google and analysts as a way of measuring website traffic. However, since then, till now, numerous other sites have come to take over the role of the popular link shortening site.
Following numerous developments, Google has now decided to end the service of goo.gl and replace it with its new tool - Firebase dynamic links. As said by Google, FDL will be smart URLs, and will be used to transmit links between users, within iOS, Android or web application platforms.
Starting from April 13, the new users will not be able
to access goo.gl to shorten their website URLs,
however, old users will be able to use it further, with the extension being for
a period of 1 year. For the rest. Google is suggesting usage of FDL, and that
after March 30, the links will redirect to the actual destinations. While
claiming that goo.gl as a great tool, Google has now
told to explore possibilities of FDL.
