In an attempt to garner nationwide attention on the Cauvery water management issue, the demand to ban IPL matches in Tamilnadu, has been increasing. While this opinion was first voiced by music composer James Vasanthan, the same has been gaining prominence. Bureaucrats are also referring to a previous situation when former CM Jayalalitha had banned a match from being held in Chepauk stadium.

Many political outfits have been proclaiming that avoiding the IPL Matches will lead to worldwide recognition for Cauvery water management issue. Several leaders have said that, almost all political parties have joined forces to participate and conduct protests, hunger strikes, and still the central government has not decided on forming Cauvery water management committee. Even the police department is not granting permission for protests to be held like the Jallikattu protest in Marina in 2017.

Hence they have started demanding youth to ignore the upcoming IPL matches to be held in Chennai, and join a strike which will turn huge with bigger participation, and hence finally the central government might pay heed to the request. In a similar fashion, in a particular situation, former CM Jayalalitha had banned a match between India and Sri Lanka from being held in Chepauk, and in the same way, IPL matches must be banned from Chennai. With the protests gaining fire, with the IPL angle also involved, the IPL organizers are now shaken over the state of the tournament in TN.
