According to sources Fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, most wanted in India for bank loan fraud, was spotted in New York, flying on his Indian passport, which was cancelled by the Indian government. However, reports say that the passport being suspended or cancelled is not an issue if the host nation accepts a traveler.
Previously Nirav Modi is accused of cheating India's second largest government bank Punjab National Bank (PNB) to the tune of nearly Rs 12,000 crore. As per report Nirav allegedly secured loans from the PNB, producing fraud guarantees for himself and his uncle and celeb diamond merchant Mehul Choksi.
Moreover Nirav Modi fled India on January 1st and
reached the UAE. On January 2nd, he left the UAE and reached Hong Kong and on
January 14th, he left for London, from where he left for New York in March. Meanwhile
the Indian Foreign Ministry in March requested Hong Kong authorities to arrest
Nirav and hand him over as per the extradition agreement of 1997.
