The Supreme Court has issued a shocking order that former chief ministers of states of the country don't have the permission or rights to occupy government bungalows. Uttar Pradesh has been currently ruled by BJP's Yogi Adityanath.
In the tenure of the previous Samajwadi government headed by Akilesh Yadav, the chief minister had brought a provision for letting ex chief ministers to reside in government bungalows. Following public interest litigation filed to cancel this provision, a bench headed by judges Ranjan Gogoi and Bhanumathi has been investigating the case.
The Supreme Court had recently asked
state and central governments to explain their views on ex chief ministers
occupying government bungalows. With the hearing on this case coming recently,
the Supreme Court had announced that no former chief minister can occupy
government bungalows and also cancelled the government order passed by the
Akhilesh Yadav lead previous Uttar Pradesh government.
