The state of Tamil Nadu has taken a drastic step in conserving the Environment by banning the plastic usage from January 1, 2019. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy announced the ban on manufacture, sales, storage and usage of disposable plastic across the state.

Speaking in the assembly, EPS said that this announcement is made based on the recommendations of an expert panel constituted by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. This ban, however, excludes disposable plastic for packaging milk, curd, oil and medical utilities.


But the ban is imposed on Plastic carry bags, plates, cups, flags, water sachets, etc. The plastic material which is dumped affects the drainage and also the groundwater table. Incidentally, this has been announced on World Environment Day.
