After a coordination meeting conducted at Mumbai, more than 17 lakhs Maharashtra government employees have decided to participate in a three-day strike, beginning today. Seeking various demands, the Maharashtra State Employees Organisation and the Class four employees association of Maharashtra had given a call for the 3-day strike beginning from 7 August, and some of these demands include the implementation of recommendations of the seventh pay commission and new recruitment.

Despite the announcement from Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis that the government will be implementing the seventh pay commission recommendations by 2019 to benefit the employees, the Employee associations had demanded the government to implement the same for Diwali. The sector expected to join the strike include employees of Municipal corporations, Zilla Parishads, Mantralaya, Teaching and Nonteaching staff of educational institutions.

The people of the state will be facing issues as the schools and colleges will not be functioning, besides the government offices. In an earlier meeting, the government had promised to implement the seventh pay commission benefits around Diwali, but the recent change of statement that only the arrears would be given for Diwali and the payscale conversion will happen in 2019, has made the employees take the strong decision.
