Demanding the maintenance of Mukkombu dam and the efforts to make available the Cauvery river water to farmers in every corner of the state, a group of farmers went on a march under P.R.Pandian from Thanjavur to Mukkombu today.
This peaceful March demanding needs of farmers were having a huge participation of 500 farmers, and when the farmers March reached Thanjavur they were stopped by the police. Police had stopped them saying that they cannot go on a march beyond that point, following which is the farmers protested that they'll continue March, which ultimately lead to police attacking and arresting several farmers.
Many farmers including their leader PR Pandian were arrested by the policemen ultimately changing the peaceful protest into a serious and chaotic one.
