Thanjavur sources made a statement that Prof. M. Balasubramoniam new director of South Zone Cultural Centre said saint composer Sri Thyagaraja’s Samadhi on the banks of Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru near Thanjavur should be declared as a national monument.



Meanwhile as per report he assumed charge as the SZCC director on Thursday. Furthermore it was stated that he told press persons on Friday that his aim would be to encourage young artists through the centre.

Accordingly he said that if the Samadhi of Thyagaraja is declared as a national monument, lot of benefits and facilities would accrue to the place which would be of great help to the artists who converge to sing in chorus during aradhana of the saint every year.
