According to sources aiming to take on mobile dating apps such as Tinder and Bumble, social networking giant Facebook started testing its new dating product in Colombia. As per report "At first glance, 'Facebook Dating' closely resembles its competitor Hinge. Both depart from the swiping model popularized by Tinder in favor of asking users to answer question prompts and start conversations based on something in a person's profile".
Accordingly every user can add up to nine photos and answers on iOS, and 12 photos on Android. Meanwhile the photos can either be picked up from the phone’s camera roll, or even from Facebook and Instagram photos that were posted on Facebook. Moreover it was reported that to avoid cat fishing attempts, every user will also have to input their location, which Facebook will verify through their phone’s GPS.
However "Facebook Dating" includes
integration with Groups and Events and draws on other aspects of Facebook to
expand the dating pool and encourage users to meet in public. Moreover he added
"We want to make it easier and more comfortable for people to engage in.
We just thought that now was the right time". Hence the Company CEO Mark
Zuckerberg originally announced the app at Facebook F8 keynote, popularly
called F8 developer conference in San Jose, California in May 2018.
