The Chief Justice of India has pronounced a stunning verdict on the case regarding the politicians holding office, with crime history and criminal cases background. The demands in the case were that if there are criminal cases filed against MPs and MLAs, they must be disqualified from their MP and MLA roles.
Besides they must also be blocked and banned from contesting in the upcoming elections, were the major points. In 2011 many individuals and nongovernmental social organizations had filed this case. Yesterday the verdict on this case was announced at the Supreme Court of India by Chief justice Deepak Misra.
He had said that if the charge sheet
is filed, that cannot be the reason to stop from contesting elections, and it
is saddening that corruption and crimes have been constantly growing in
politics, and political parties must follow ethical practices and culture,. He
added that political parties must themselves start fielding criminals in
elections, and that the court is not in a position to ban criminal background
politicians from contesting in elections.
