The High court has announced the verdict that there was no necessity to collect the penalty of 100 crores levied on the disproportionate assets case for former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, the late Jayalalithaa, and due to this, the case filed at Karnataka has been dismissed.

Earlier, the Karnataka special court had announced a verdict of imprisonment as well as a penalty for Jayalalithaa, Sasikala, Ilavarasi, and Sudhakaran, in the disproportionate assets case. However, the re appeal made by their side on the case was heard by Justice Kumarasamy, who had announced that the 4 were released from the case. 


However, the Karnataka government had appealed against this verdict in the Supreme Court, and with the verdict yet to be announced, Jayalalithaa had passed away on December  5, 2016, and the verdict was declared only on February 14, 2017.


Despite her death, it was appealed that the 100 crores penalty must be collected, but however, the bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra, Ranjan Gogoi, Madhan B Lokoor had heard the case, and announced that Jayalalitha had been released and there was no need to pay the 100 crores in the disproportionate assets case.
