According to sources Andaman Islands is bracing for Cyclone Pabuk, a storm that is expected to hit the region between January 5 and 7. Meanwhile in a bulletin on Friday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weather summary.



IMD said “The cyclonic storm 'PABUK' lay centered over south China Sea & adjoining Gulf of Thailand in early morning of today, the 04th January 2019. Furthermore it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and emerge into Andaman Sea around the forenoon of 5th January 2019 evening/night of 6th January and then re-curve north-eastwards towards Myanmar coast and weaken further during 7th- 8th January”.

An official said the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) Kolkata has warned of heavy rains in Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to approaching tropical cyclone 'Pabuk' which will emerge in the Andaman Sea on January 5. Scientist A.K. Sen said "Heavy rains are predicted in the Andaman Islands from January 5-7. Currently the tropical cyclonic storm 'Pabuk' is located above South China Sea, almost 1,500 km from Port Blair”.
