Chennai sources made a statement that Hosur and Nagercoil municipalities in the state will be upgraded as corporations. Meanwhile the move gives effect to the announcement by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami during the MGR centenary celebrations in Krishnagiri and Kanyakumari districts. Reportedly introducing the bills to give effect to the Chief Minister's announcements, municipal administration minister S. P. Velumani said the two municipalities would be upgraded as corporations.



The Minister said "Accordingly the State government has decided to undertake legislation adopting the provisions of the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Act, 1981 with such modifications as is necessary".

Moreover as corporations the two civic bodies will get an elected mayor each. Meanwhile addressing the meeting in Hosur Mr. Palaniswami said the municipality would be upgraded as corporation owing to the increase in population and industrial development. He said eight nearby panchayats would be integrated with Hosur and this will be implemented before the next election.
